Manager: Gerardo Martino
Key Player: Hirving Lozano
Best Finish: Quarter Finals (1970 & 1986)
2022 World Cup Group: Argentina, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Poland
The 2-time hosts of the World Cup (in 1970 and 1986) have been beaten in the Round of 16 in the past seven World Cups! That’s making it through qualification, through the group stage and falling at the first hurdle seven times.
The 2026 co-hosts will be looking to take it at least one step further at this winter’s tournament.
With this potentially being the first World Cup since 2006 for the Mexicans without Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, they will be hoping Raul Jiminez will finally be able to perform at the highest stage of them all and score his first World Cup goal.
However, at the other end of the pitch, El Tri could also potentially be without former World Cup hero Guillerme Ochoa, who became iconic after the 2014 World Cup with some magnificent saves.
Overall, Mexico could realistically look at making it to the round of 16 for the eighth time in a row. Whether they go beyond that is up to them.
