Lionel Messi, it’s his last World Cup according to the man himself. Even more of an incentive for him to strive for Argentina’s first World Cup triumph in 36 years. It’s the only possible major honour he hasn’t won in his illustrious career and the only thing that Argentinian fans use to separate him from the late, great Diego Maradona.

After losing the 2014 World Cup final in extra time and bitterly crashing out in the round of 16 to France, the 2021 Copa America win should give the Argentinians some much-needed momentum going into this winter’s tournament.

Players like Lautaro Martinez, Rodrigo De Paul, Cristian Romero, and Emiliano Martinez have all been performing well at club level over the past calendar year, and they provide a much-needed strong spine for this Argentinian squad.

With players like the star man Lionel Messi, Paulo Dybala, and Gabriel Montiel playing off them, La Selleción will be hopeful coming into the tournament.

Given all of the build-up, and the fact this is a very strong Argentinian side, anything less than a semi-final is a disappointment.
