Messi has now sealed his ticket into the final of the World Cup but his nations challengers are yet to be determined. Will this year finally be the perfect end to a perfect career for arguably the greatest of all time.

Argentina were favourites coming into this tournament alongside fellow South Americans Brazil. Since their opening game loss to Saudi Arabia there has been question marks over Argentina and whether they are actually the team everyone believed them to be prior to the tournament.

Since that game they have looked increasingly better with each passing game culminating with an amazing performance in the semi-final against Croatia. Messi has been at the heart of everything that is good when it comes to Argentina but now other players are coming out of the shadows and showing up for their country.

The Likes of Julian Alvarez have showing themselves to be huge threats and now the Argentina team is purring like it hasn’t yet in this tournament, and there can be no better time to hit form than just before a final.

If France are to go through then Argentina will have a tough task on their hands, however the French backline has looked shaky at times especially in their quarter final game with England. Leo Messi pulling the strings against that backline could spell trouble for the French.

The backline of Argentina however haven’t necessarily been perfect and with the like of Mbappe, Dembele and Giroud you would worry about them.

If Morocco were to progress I believe it is a little more straight forward. Not that Morocco are easily beaten because that is certainly the one thing they are not. However Morocco rely a lot on cutting out passing lanes and holding shape and don’t possess that killer striker up top.

One thing you don’t necessarily want Messi to do is have time on the ball which you would imagine he would have against Morocco. Messi being able to pick passes against that back line, as strong as it has been, could prove to be the Moroccan kryptonite no one else has been able to find.

No matter who the opponent is for Argentina in this final it is guaranteed that Messi will play a huge role if they are to win it all. Both opponents have strengths and weaknesses and either way it is going to be one hell of a game.
