Key Player: Thomas Partey

Best Finish: Quarter Finals (2010)

World Cup Group: Portugal, Ghana, Uruguay, South Korea

Ghana enter this Winter’s World Cup as the lowest ranked team in the competition coming in at 62nd in the latest release of FIFA’s rankings after crashing out of this year’s African cup of nations in the group stage and suffering a humiliating loss to Comoros, a country with roughly 3% of the population of the Black Stars.

All this leads you to think that Ghanaians may be pessimistic going into this year’s tournament, and whilst they’re not expecting another run to the Quarter finals like they did in 2010 there is hope for the West African nation after several high profile players switched national allegiances to represent them.

Athletic Bilbao star Inaki Williams, Brighton’s right back Tariq Lamptey and Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu all declared their availability for Ghana over the course of this year. This new talent give Ghana a much needed boost and expect them to battle South Korea and Uruguay for second spot in Group H.
